Essential Thrombocytosis

Abnormal numbers of platelets (thrombocytes) can be due to a form of bone marrow cancer.  These excessive platelets can increase the risk of thrombosis (clots) which can be fatal.    Typically patients are prescribed hydroxyurea, a type of chemotherapy, that has significant toxicity.  Presented under this section is relevant research regarding the role of oxidation as a cause of the disease and nutritional intervention to possibly lower thrombocythemia (excess platelets).
