Kidney failure as a result of the contrast material used in CT scans and other radiologic imaging studies is not uncommon. I have lost a number of patients due to this. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a proven preventive measure one can take to reduce the change of kidney damage when taken before and after such studies. I take it daily 500 mg for decreased cancer risk, improved liver function, elevation of glutathione levels and more.
